Emigrated with parents from Stithians CON, ENG to SA, AUS in the William Prowse ex Plymouth. Arrived 19 Aug 1854. Lived in Moonta where his father was a miner. He also was a miner until at least 1877 but later he had grocer's shop in Sophia Terrace, Kadina. Business may have failed during depression of 1890s.
Clock presented by the Taylor Street Methodist Church, Kadina on 21 Aug 1903 came into possession of his grandson Jack (John Sidney Phillips) & then his great grandson (James Rex Phillips).
Moved to Stansbury with wife & lived with daughter Mary (Bowman) until his death. Was described as a carpenter at time of wife's death in 1910.
