Biographical notes:
Migrated to Australia in 1848 to join Seppelts. He was taught fencing skills & horsemanship by his first wife Josephine Martinius. The marriage was dissolved after her death at age 21 due to some irregularity with the marriage. However Adolph had inherited 'a vast fortune' of uncertain origin. Adolph's sword fighting skills were put to good use when he fended off bush rangers on a coach trip from Victoria to SA (as the story goes).
Inherited the King of Hanover Hotel, 90 Rundle St, Adelaide from his second wife, Rudolphine Uhlendorf. Publican 1856-1865. The Hotel was later renamed 'The Commonwealth'.
