Biographical notes:
Daughter of Sir Hans Heysen. Began formal training as an artist at North Adelaide in 1926. Further study in Britain & Europe. Winner of the Archibald Portrait Prize in 1938. Moved to Sydney in 1938. Was first female official war artist appointed during World War II which took her to New Guinea in 1944. Awarded the Order of Australia. Lived at Hunters Hill, NSW.
