While living at Edwardstown, the family often went to the beach with the Cudley family from next door but he did not enjoy it because he got sunburnt. On one occasion he was told to wait on the front verandah but both cars left without him. When his absence was discovered, the family rang the stationmaster at Edwardstown who went & collected him & put him on the train.
While living at Dulwich, he attended the Gartrell Memorial Methodist Church at Rose Park.
War Service: Enlisted: 23 Apr 1945 at Port Adelaide, SA; Service Number: PA5336; Discharged: 29 Nov 1946; Rank: Stores Asst. Upon hearing of his enlistment, his grandfather James Deacon cried, having lost his son Edward Deacon in World War I. Ted never considered the effect on his mother.
